It’s election season again, obviously.
Someone said that flowers can be beautiful, even when they aren’t native.
Someone asked if anyone needed a free chainsaw and “all that goes with it.”
A clandestine coalition of vacation rental home owners called “The Sea Ranch Hosting Coalition” thanked everyone for supporting board candidates that put an end to “short-term thinking” about short-term rentals in the previous election. They also warned everyone that one person currently running for the board of directors knows some people who know some other people that maybe once said something about considering restrictions on short-term rental inventory. Her election to the board, they said, would represent a cruel form of oppressive minority rule.
The Sea Ranch political dialogue is “less acrimonious” since the recent power shift in The Sea Ranch Board of Directors, according to some TSRA members who often agree with the current board’s decision making. “Don’t make me laugh”, said another TSRA member, who generally disagrees with the current board’s positions on important matters.
Several TSRA members suggested that “dark money” is at play in our board of director elections. Who’s paying for all of these fancy election websites anyway?
Several members wondered out loud why there is so much negative energy on the Listserv. One member admitted to being absorbed by this negative energy, but then they remembered something about Ram Dass.
One TSRA member said, unless you plan on running for the board of directors, you best keep your opinions to yourself.
Someone who used to maintain a local phone book retired.
Someone requested that jets be cooled.
Nobody wanted to take responsibility for the “discontinued” solar array project near the airstrip (or was it at the offices, or maybe the Moonraker rec center? Nobody knows). Several TSRA members pointed out that the former community manager purchased a quarter million dollars of solar panels that we cannot use, which are being stored (at a cost) somewhere near Santa Cruz. Several members accused one existing board member as being complicit in the debacle and that the rest of the board was busy trying to cover their messy tracks. Two board members suggested that the Listserv had gotten out of hand again and that they wouldn’t respond to false facts. One board member compared the Listserv to QAnon posts on 4Chan.
Other members said the Listserv is no place for The Sea Ranch political debate, and that most people on the Listerv just want to hear about items for sale, volunteer opportunities, and the funny cartoons that one member occasionally posts.
Two board candidates are running under the banner “Sanity for The Sea Ranch”. One member, who does not plan to vote for either of those two candidates, raised the question, “are they calling us insane for not supporting them?”
The debate surrounding potential “fire breaks” in The Sea Ranch’s central forest continued last week. The debate was entirely concerned around whether creating a very large fire break (100 feet) on each side of the fire road would actually reduce the risk of forest fires reaching dwellings at The Sea Ranch. But nobody, not one single person, pointed out the obvious and most important issue: a fire break this size would be visually unappealing.
Editor’s Note: We don’t want to hear anyone whining about how this summary isn’t as good as the older ones were. We’ve taken a long break and need to warm up again. Keep your filthy comments to yourselves.
